dymepiece_2004@sbcglobal.net asked:

Meaning, what is the purpose for males when dating, and what is the purpose for females? What are the roles males and fermales are supposed to play when dating, how are they to act? ***This is for a Motivational Psych class I have***

Men date to increase the possibility of spreading DNA to the furthest reaches of the human race and women date to examine all possible candidates for genetic viability before accepting a donation for their future offspring.

Forgive me for my sarcasm, but the motivation is the same as it has always been. For centuries men have been looking for a compatible sex partner who is readily available for them. Women have been looking for a protector. Men want to be appreciated. Women want to be heard and, to an extent, adored. Even though society has progressed scientifically, men and women still have the same basic needs. How else would we continue as a species? Even though some male and female roles have reversed, the large majority still fit the pattern of male provider and female producer of offspring. It is a simple matter of continueing the species. Dating is the period of time in which males and females “try each other out” to see if they fit or not. The only complication in dating is the mulitfacited approach to dating that we now employ. Many women expect equality. While many men expect the simplicity of traditional family structure. It is a matter of working out who will do what tasks in the household. In our family, I, as a woman, am basically the final word. But, this would not be possible if my husband were not a confident man. Truly, he is so confident that he can allow me to make the final decision. It is a simple matter of survival for our family unit. I make the most money. I have the most experience in life. And I make the final decisions. But, because I respect him for who he is, I listen to all that he has to say. And he tempers my ambition with a stabilty that no other man could probably provide. I respect this, and I value it. And if it were not for him, my ambition would mean nothing. I would fail. Because I am a woman, I know its value. If it were not for him, I would not feel protected and, thus, SAFE enough to be who I am. In a strange maternal way, society has come full circle in many ways. Women rule the world. Only, now it is outright, rather than through their men. Instead, it is because of their men.
