How do I start a dating Web site?
prissfit03 asked:
I have a niche-y concept that will be very different from the giants in the online dating market, so I am confident that it will work. I’ve Googled my arse off, but there any no such thing as too much information when it comes to a business venture. Anyone out there have suggestions on how I should begin? All I’ve done thus far is purchase the domain. I want it to look nice. I’ve seen scripts advertised online. How do I know they are what I want/need, and that I am not being scammed? Maybe my next question will be, “How does one overcome paranoia?” Thanks!

Congratulations on your new business venture. It sounds like you have the concept and are looking for ways to market your on line business.
May I suggest picking up a copy of Websites for Dummies ? Read through it before building your site or hiring someone to do it for you. The book is easy to navigate, explains the jargon used when designing a website. The book is easy to navigate and VERY informatitive.
There are many websites out there who offer free templates, all you have to do is fill in the information you want to see on your website & VOILA! Within a few hours you are up & Running.
Here you will find many useful templates; some are free & some you must pay for
Personally, I feel that templates are too generic & sterile looking. You will find them used over & over again on multiple websites, with only slight variations. You want your website to be the one that stands out from all others in your industry. Business (Brand) identity is criticle to the making or breaking of a business.
You may also want to check out your competitions websites. Note what you do & don’t like about the sites. This will help guide you in the right direction when developing your website.
Best of Luck
Once you have domain, you can hire web developers who will built the website up, you know, to make it look nice. Also, you need a merchant account to be able to process credit card payments. You can contact a merchant account provider, who will assist you in setting up your site’s virtual terminal and all other technical stuff. A word of advice, dating websites are considered high risk so you’ll have a difficult getting a merchant account from your local bank. Offshore is your next best possible option. I think that a little sense of paranoia is ok..makes you more assertive. One way to get over paranoia is asking questions, which you’re doing right now, because you can get confirmations. Also, you can have everything printed in black and white in a contract for your dating website.
I prefer the smaller dating sites and the niche sites. I recommend trying
