There are over fourty methods in use for dating rock samples. Each involves a radioactive isotope, (the parent), and a product, (the daughter) that could easily wash in or out throwing the ratio way off.
Water is constantly seeping through the rocks all the time. That is how water gets under the ground into wells. You cannot find rocks that this does not happen of has not happend to.

We have done many tests and it is now fact that carbon 14 dating is able to tell age with a small margin of error. We have even done tests on things that we kill and they have come out to be correct. With evidence, people still insist the earth is 6,000 years old.

Yesterday there was news of a 3.3 million year old Australopithecus afarensis fossil from Ethiopia. I’m just curious as to how they ascertain the age. I know it’s not carbon-14 dating, that’s 2 orders of magnitude beyond its range. It’s been a while since I learned about this stuff, so thanks for refreshing my memory.
